Build up your confidence with the help of a native British teacher to speak and courage to express yourself in a wide range of topics.

If you are already confident in English but want to improve your conversation skills, this is the discussion group for you. We will be exploring and discussing a variety of topical subjects in a relaxed, motivating setting. Discussion will be based on material given to study at home beforehand, so everyone can prepare at their own leisure for discussion in class. There will also be a chance for students to suggest and bring their own topics to class for discussion. We will discuss topical issues from a variety of sources, to provide plenty of new words and expressions. Material will be at times challenging texts from unabridged sources. Discussion can be based not just on reading input, but also listening to a brief podcast, for example. Whereas the focus is on discussion, we may briefly pick up on a few grammar, pronunciation and other points where necessary. After the course, you should be more confident of maintaining a conversation in English and your vocabulary should also be many new words and expressions richer.

In our weekly conversations, we’ll share our thoughts and opinions about different topics that are currently in the news or being discussed in society. Outside of class we’ll read news articles and watch video clips online. Because many stories in the news can be stressful, we will also make time to discuss more pleasant subjects such as culture, entertainment, literature, food, etc. Students are encouraged to contribute topics to the course based on their own interests. Depending on the wishes of the class, we can also include some short grammar exercises to refresh our memory on certain points. The teacher is British.
