A Retro Bowl game is a college football game that wasn't played during the current NFL season. Instead, it was played during an older NFL season. This was the first retro bowl game. It was the NFL Championship Game between the New York Giants and the Baltimore Colts in 1962. After the 1989 season, all bowl games were renamed "retro bowls." Since then, it seems like at least one team from a different era has played in almost every bowl game.
