Agatha Christie was born in Torquay on England's south coast. In a career spanning over half a century, the prolific crime writer was inspired by the landscapes and character of her home country, much of which featured in her novels. This talk takes viewers on a literary tour of England - focusing on the most interesting locations featured in some of her best-known books.

3rd lecture (12 May): 'Victorian London with Holmes, Watson and Conan Doyle'

With Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, you are welcome to explore 'the Old Smoke' (Victorian London) of Sherlock Holmes and other parts of England made famous by the detective and his assistant Doctor Watson. We will also look into the influence of Conan Doyle's interest in spiritualism and the paranormal.

In our final lecture we explore the England and Wales of the fictional character, Brother Cadfael, a monk in the Benedictine abbey of St Peter and St Paul in 12th century Shrewsbury, near the Welsh Border.
